Happy 2017 to our new and returning members and friends! As we start this New Year I'd like to remind you of our charter:
SVAFP, a non-profit professional association, dedicated to serving the needs of treasury and finance professional members at all stages of their career by providing services in networking, education, and career development.
2017 Board Members
I'm honored to announce the SVAFP Board Members for 2017 and to welcome two new Board members – Jeanne Castro Schmidt and My Truong. This team of highly talented individuals brings a wealth of knowledge and industry experience that gives a leading edge to the SVAFP and its constituents.
● Vice President – Kin Ng, Sr. Treasury Manager at Synopsys Inc.
● Treasurer - Shannon Alwyn, Sr. Global Treasury Manager at Netflix
● Secretary – My Truong, Consulting Manager at Hedge Trackers
● Speaker Chair - Mark Tully, Director at Kyriba Corp
● Communications Chair – Jeanne Castro Schmidt, President at Treasury Management Solutions (non-voting member)
● Membership Chair - Peter Morris, Treasury Consultant(non-voting member)
We have a number of exciting programs and events planned for 2017, many of which continue long-standing SVAFP traditions. I hope you continue to take advantage of the many opportunities that are available, including 8 fantastic meetings in 2016 on topics relevant to the Treasury/Finance profession. Besides offering educational sessions that provide CTP credits, some of those same meetings may also provide FP&A credits.
Simplified Membership Options
We have simplified our membership options this year by offering Individual and Corporate Transferable memberships and keeping the prices unchanged from last year. As in the past, an Individual membership belongs to an Individual and can only be used by that person. The Corporate Transferable membership is designated in the name of the company and can be used by any employee of the company. Also, there is no longer a distinction between practitioners and vendors in our membership structure. We believe that the two membership types offer flexible and affordable cost options for members in different stages of their careers and employment status.
New Meeting Venues
We will continue to have lunch meetings at Michaels in Shoreline Park, Mountain View and we plan to add a second location soon at David’s Restaurant in Santa Clara. The conference style venues provide a professional environment with great lunch menus and help the SVAFP meet its sustainable budget goal with their reasonable pricing. It is our goal to alternate between Michael’s and David’s in 2017 as they are both conveniently placed locations for our members.
We are excited to announce the launch of a new podcast called Treasury On the Go! When permitted by our speakers, we will record and publish our lunch meetings, and there will be additional episodes covering other current topics with key thought leaders in Bay Area Treasury. . As a privilege of membership in the SVAFP, members will be eligible to receive CTP credits for many of the episodes. We look forward to providing more details about this new venture in the next couple of weeks.
I would like to thank our loyal members who have been attending our meetings regularly and supporting the SVAFP over the years. While we appreciate all the guests who participate in our monthly functions, our success as an organization relies heavily on your membership. Members are the only persons who can provide guidance to the Board; as a member you can take advantage of the members-only benefits we offer including reduced pricing for meeting attendance, access to CTP credits for the podcasts, and special promotions which we will roll out during the year. Joining early in the year also helps us to set and manage our budget in a professional manner. If you haven’t already joined us, we’d like to take another opportunity to invite you to do so by clicking here.
